The Ballad of Veronica Mars

"In September 2004, so it goes
Veronica was just one of many new shows.
Critics raved, but viewers were few:
Would the show be cancelled by episode two?
On UPN it seemed almost insane
To hope we'd find out who killed Lilly Kane.
But against all odds: a full season pickup!
And season 2! Maybe the ratings would tick up!

The show went on, but ratings were bad.
Renewal looked iffy and that made us sad.
Then: UPN to merge with WB!
A new chance for Veronica Mars? Could it be?
Maybe they'd gamble on a VM growth spurt
(and the Cloud Watchers' plane certainly couldn't hurt).
Dawn stood by Mars like we'd hoped that she would-
No wonder we called it "The Little Show that Could"!

New network, new timeslot- the future looked bright
But the way the show was handled just wasn't right.
To say that the promos were bad would be mild:
Relationships cracking? Veronica with child?
The hiatus was long, and the Pussycats rotten.
We returned but by then many fans had forgotten.

We all hoped for a miracle, but now it is clear:
Our beloved show won't be returning next year.
We've had three seasons, and for these we thank our lucky stars!"
